Answer

How should an institution prepare an OTC crypto trade?

Prepare a clear trade brief, confirm account eligibility and agree execution and settlement terms before accepting a quote. Agio's Private OTC Desk is the starting point for discussing the mandate. The available pair, size, route and timing must be confirmed for the specific trade.

What goes into the first trade brief?

State the buy or sell direction, intended assets or currencies, approximate size and business purpose. Identify the trading entity and its authorized contact. Include timing preferences and the proposed settlement route without sending account credentials or sensitive documents in an initial public enquiry.

What needs to be ready before a quote can be acted on?

Confirm the contracting party, account acceptance and authorized signers with the desk. Ask which due-diligence information and settlement arrangements remain outstanding. If the transaction changes materially, check whether the existing review still covers it before treating a previous conversation as permission to proceed.

How should we read the quote?

Identify the pair, quantity, quoted price, validity conditions and total consideration. Ask which charges are included and which settlement or network costs are separate. Record how acceptance is communicated. If the quote expires or the instruction changes, request current terms before authorizing the trade.

Which settlement details should be checked?

Confirm the paying and receiving entities, asset, network, full destination details and agreed sequence of movements. Use the established verification channel for changed instructions. Ask who confirms receipt and handles a discrepancy. A familiar token name alone does not establish the correct network or destination.

What if settlement is delayed or incomplete?

Record the trade reference, expected movement, observed status and responsible contact. Check the relevant payment or transaction record before initiating another movement. Ask the desk which dependency is unresolved and agree the next update. Do not infer completed settlement from a quote acceptance or a submitted instruction.

What belongs in the completed trade record?

Retain the accepted terms, approvals, execution confirmation, settlement references and any associated charges. Reconcile the result to the institution's custody and accounting records. Keep exceptions and their resolution with the trade file so the operations team can explain differences during its later review.
